The Choir

Doncaster Choral Society was formed in 1888 under its earlier name of Doncaster Musical Society. We have over 100 years of tradition in excellent and engaging choral performance, drawing our members from across Doncaster and beyond.

We are proud to have around 55-60 active choir members and to perform with leading soloists and musicians from across the region. We were delighted to be able to appoint Matt Beckingham in 2023 as our new Musical Director.

Our new 2025-26 season starts on Saturday 15 November 2025, with Karl Jenkins' The Peacemakers and Matthew Coleridge's Requiem. We continue performing this season in the former Priory Place Methodist Church in central Doncaster.

Our full 2025-26 season under the theme of 'New Heights' continues on 13 December 2025 with John
Rutter Carols and Sasha Johnson Manning's Manchester Carols, performed with Town Field Primary School. In the new year, on Saturday 7 March we peform Fauré's Requiem & Cantique de Jean Racine and then complete our season with Brahm's German Requiem in May 2026.

In December, our members also usually sing carols at a church service and at the Woolmarket, Doncaster.

We rehearse in Cantley, with Matt and the choir being ably supported by our regular accompanist Simon Corner.

See our Concerts page for full details.

Come and sing with us!

We're always on the look out for new members to join our wonderful choir.

Please contact Val Stapleton, by email
[email protected], if you'd like to come along.

You'll be assured of a warm welcome and you can immediately join rehearsals to see how you enjoy singing with us. We then have a straightforward audition process after a few weeks.

We are very pleased to have already welcomed a number of new members in recent seasons. They have sung with us and then successfully auditioned and are now members of the choir.

Rehearsal location: Cantley Methodist Church

Rehearsals take place each Tuesday evening from 7pm-9pm at Cantley Methodist Church, DN4 6BT. See map below.

Rehearsals for our 2025-26 season will resume on Tuesday 9 September.
